| eLearn Magazine (subtitle Education & Technology in Perspective): I just discovered this site, chock full of Very Interesting reading that will keep my busy for a long while. Topics are very current and relevant. Categories include: Best Practices, Case Studies, Tutorials, Reviews, Research papers. Articles are grouped by Design, Technology, Usability, Business, Culture. The site "offers a community hub for e-learning professionals on the Web, providing a wealth of public forums for the free exchange of ideas. Our targeted readership includes both providers and consumers of online learning, with a special emphasis on teachers, managers, and administrators working to develop educational programs or classes on the Web." I investigated the "about us" page and discovered that one of my eLearning gurus, Stephen Downes, is on the Editorial Advisory Board, and another (more recent) personal guru, Lisa Neal, is the Editor-in-Chief. Yay for the online version of 6 degrees of separation. 05/25/08 Getting Results: A FREE Professional Development Course for Community College Educators. Their press release says: "WGBH-TV and the League for Innovation in the Community College are pleased to announce the launch of Getting Results multimedia professional development modules for training community college faculty. The modules focus on the teaching of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics specifically in Advanced Technology Education classrooms. The modules include real teachers and students in real classroom settings across the country, representing a range of fields, institutions, programs, and subject areas. Suitable for self-study, face-to-face training, or other formats of online and on-site use.... Extensive curriculum, including downloadable PDF versions of web-based text, is now available online at no charge." 04/03/08 Suite 101 courses: "Suite101.com offers FREE, fun, and accessible online learning for a wide variety of general interest courses designed with you in mind. All you have to do is pick a course or a particular lesson and simply click and learn…it's that easy!" 04/02/08
Effective Teaching & Learning:This is a full online course at Baker College. All course materials appear to be free to read through even if you're not enrolled. It's extensive and covers a lot of material. The course was developed as part of their Developmental Education Quality Improvement Project (DEQIP) project. "As part of this project, faculty development for instructors teaching developmental education classes has been targeted as an intervention." 09/12/05 Adult Learning - an approach to teacher ProD: Replacing Training with Adult Learning -- How does adult learning differ from the training models that have dominated technology related professional development for the past two decades? 07/25/03 Training Resources: Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology provides a list that includes print materials, websites, listserves & forums, free online magazines, and Professional Organizations in Distance Education. 12/12/02 Concord Consortium: "Since 1995, this consortium has pioneered online instruction. Over the years we have developed and refined the Concord Consortium e-Learning Model for the design and operation of online courses. Using this model, we have delivered over 200 successful courses reaching more than ten thousand teachers, students, and online course developers. Our approach is based on collaborative learning in asynchronous groups guided by trained facilitators. "The model of evidence-based design of eLearning tools and pedagogies was launched by Dr. Linda Harasim in 1983 and has provided the basis for both our Research and Development, and commercial offerings." They also offer basic and customizable training packages for instructors wanting to use eCourse delivery methods. 10/15/02 Tips for Teaching Synchronously: An archived copy of a 'live' lecture by Jennifer Hofmann from August/01. Recommended by Mario Arnaldo: "very satisifying, clear audio, no video (too bad!), good slides, super moderator/producer (2nd person who works with main presenter)" 10/05/02 Tools You Can Use to Mark Students' Papers: I've used their excellent tutorial on how to use MS Word's Reviewing Tools. Excellent tutorial to provide to students. Tutorials range from entry level texts on using word processors..." 01/02/02 TechTutorials.com: "The directory of free computer tutorials and whitepapers. The directory currently contains 1693 free tutorials!" 01/02/02 BigNoseBird.com: Tutorials, scripts, design, reference, much more. Includes a section "For Those Just Starting". Great resource site. 12/31/01 AECT Tutorials: Wow! A site that's chock full of various tutorials in computer use, various software, internet use, creating webpages, and much more. Practical hands-on lesson in which you actually "construct a series of linked web pages for any subject that includes formatted text, pictures, and hypertext links to other web pages on the Internet." 11/19/01 InfoPackets: "Computer help desk ... offers free tech support ... specialize in providing Windows help in the form of online video tutorials. 11/13/01 Using the Internet for instruction: Meant for faculty at the University of Illinois, this set of tutorials might be useful for others too. 10/25/01 StartUp Guides for Education Practitioners: The Commonwealth of Learning (COL). A series of start-up guides for distance education practitioners. The five six-page handbooks are in PDF and may be reproduced free of charge for non-commercial purposes. 03/17/01 Technology Planning: A site chock full of resources to help with developing plans for the use of educational technology. Audio tutorials, recommended reading, and a collection of resource links. Also an extensive list of links to existing technology plans! 01/03/01 Kathy Schrock's Guide for Educators: EXCELLENT! Ms. Schrock as teamed with the Discovery Channel to create this site. "A categorized list of sites useful for enhancing curriculum and professional growth. Lots of info here! 11/10/00 Learn2com: An award winning site with on-line tutorials on everything from popular software programs such as Windows, FrontPage, etc. to flying a kite!
