Building a Successful Blended Learning Strategy: "There seems to be reluctance in transitioning instructor-led training (ILT) to a blended learning format. This may be due to resistance on the part of the organization or training department to change existing classroom session formats. Another reason I believe is more prevalent is not knowing how. [This] case study is an example of how our training department made a very successful transition prior to knowing what blended learning meant." 07/03/05

Experience as a Distance Learning Teacher Makes You a Better Classroom Teacher: "A whopping 85% of faculty reported that their experience as online teachers 'will have a positive effect on their classroom instruction.' To sum up, (a) faculty have to invest a lot of time into developing online learning versions of their courses, (b) they do so (at least in the SLN program) with the active collaboration of other talented and experienced teachers, and (c) some of the gains from this effort can inevitably be translated back into the traditional classroom....online instruction does not simply entail mimicking what happens in the classroom, but rather, requires a transformation: a re-conceptualization of their course and learning objectives given the options and constraints of the new learning environment." 12/31/04

Somewhere A Place to Learn: This article discusses a couple of options for "where to learn", and covers the concept of the Learning Center as a successful eLearning environment. Perhaps in the near future ideas like those of the author will help those of us who already work in Learning Centers to redefine our role in the community. Established learning centers are in a position to update their concept and presentation of the kinds of support and instruction that are offered. The author suggests that "E-learning in a learning centre with the aid of qualified, local instructors appeared to result in the most enjoyable learning experiences and...instructors remain an essential ingredient of...learning programmes for years to come." 03/22/03
