Kate BrittI have resisted adding an "about me" page for years. But here I am, giving in at last. 04/06/06

I'm pleased you found my Resources site and I hope you are finding it useful.Please post your location on my GuestMap; I'm always happy when somebody new finds my site and posts their location dot. :)

PinkFlamingo, maskedWho is PinkFlamingo? (Why that handle?)

<begin Soapbox "speech"> (please bear with me)

When I first entered the online world, I took html lessons online. During that class, for the sake of having a theme for my homework pages, I began using the PinkFlamingo handle and image theme.

When I entered the world of Online Education and began posting in user forums, I used my PinkFlamingo ID in keeping with my personal online theme. Wow! I got some vehement reactions. People wanted to know my "real name". It seems that for some people if a handle doesn't look or sound "normal" it's not appropriate. My reply, and I still feel this way, is that I'm with The Bard: “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” In other words, I could tell you I'm Mary Smith or Johal Gurpin and you'd be happy, but would THAT be my real name? You just don't know the truth of what you read online.

I say, check out my webpage content, where I believe my intentions are clear; see if I'm sincere and "real" by my words and what I present. The name doesn't matter.

However, if people need my "real name" in order to check out my credentials, I suppose that has some validity in some areas. When I'm teaching or working online, therefore, I use my "real name" and let people know why I'm qualified. But here in PinkFlamingo's Resource Lists, the pages are simply full of links to external resources. The validity of the information you find here lies in the sites I link to rather than within this site. When I include my opinion about a resource, that's just my opinion and I hope that you'll decide for yourself once you see the site(s) you choose to link to.

</off soapbox now :) >

Oh, OK. My real name is Kate Britt. For today, anyway. ;)

About this Resources site

I began the site in the early 1990s as a way of keeping my growing collection of bookmarks organized and available from anywhere. That was before all the social bookmark-from-anywhere sites existed.

I began offering the link to my site to a few colleagues and online acquaintances, who then contributed occasionally with their own useful resources. The networking began to grow. The information keeps on expanding, and I just keep posting *only what I personally find helpful or interesting*.

I've never submitted the site to any search engine, yet these days I'm getting 300 to 500 visitors a day! (See my stats page.) I just can't believe the stats! However, I'm VERY PLEASED that my own personal collection of links is proving so useful to educators, students, web designers, and writers worldwide.

Hope you keep coming back to the site. You can also subscribe with Subscribe ATOM to my What's New blog page to keep up with the newest links.

Thanks for your curiosity. I'm glad you actually made it to the end of this page!
